Ghana Nurses Association
INTRODUCTION
The Ghana
Nurses Association Of The Midwest (GNAMW) is a not-for-profit
Medical Relief and Health Education Organization; based in Chicago
Illinois, with international outreach to Sub-Saharan Africa. Founded
in Chicago on April 1st, 1999, the GNAMW has registered
with the State of Illinois and the Internal Revenue Service as a
not-for-profit Organization.
Membership is
made up of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and
Certified Nurse Assistants.

The Executives
MISSION
As a
not-for-profit organization dedicated to help the poor and the less
fortunate in our society, our mission is to: -
- Relieve
pain and suffering caused by disease conditions that could be
cured or controlled.
- Provide
access to simple but important medical equipment and supplies
needed to diagnose a medical condition heal wound or treat a
disease process.
- Prevent the
spread of communicable diseases by providing free community health
promotion and disease prevention education.
GOALS
Within the
above mission, our goals are to: -
- Assist the
underprivileged and poor citizens and immigrants who are uninsured
in preventive health screenings like mammograms and Pap’s smear.
- Educate the
community to understand ways to prevent medical problems
associated with Maternal and Child Health, Hypertension, Diabetes,
Stroke, Various types of cancer, HIV, AIDS and many other disease
conditions.
- Educate the
community on ways to prevent and or stop abuse of children, women
and the elderly in our community.
- Provide
medical equipment and supplies to not-for-profit hospitals and
clinics in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Explain the
havocs in the abuse of drugs, including illicit drugs, to the
community and refer addicts to community resources available to
assist in their rehabilitation.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
We have
undertaken preventive health Education in the Chicago Metropolis and
have provided free First-Aid, Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar
screenings at various functions.
We have also
distributed Medical Education Materials to individuals and served as
vital resource personnel to many people who need advise on health
care.
NEEDS
There are so
many people in inner cities in the United States and majority of
citizens of developing countries, especially, Sub-Saharan African
Nations, who cannot afford medical insurance and thus, do not have
access to healthcare. These people include the poor, disabled, women
and children, who depend on organizations like the GNAMW for their
healthcare needs. We strongly appeal to Hospitals, Nursing Homes,
Schools, Churches and individuals to assist us. We believe that each
one of us has a role to play. Here is a list of some of our needs
and ways for you to support the mission and goals of the GNAMW.

contribution is too small. Your donation of a dollar will go a
long way to help a child breath easier, ease suffering or prevent
blindness.
Members of the
GNAMW are full time workers so there is little or no overhead cost
in the operation of the GNAMW. We cannot do everything, but with
your kind support, we can impact the lives of thousands.
