Ghana's Independence Anniversary

On March 6th every year the Ghanaian community in the Chicago Metropolitan Area celebrates Ghana's Anniversary and the attainment of freedom from British Colonial rule on March 6, 1957 and to honor the Ghanaian citizens who made this happen. On this day the Ghanaian Community in Chicago celebrates with a dinner and dance that brings together about 200 to 400 members of the community and from different parts of the state and the country. The event is organized annually by the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago. Speakers at the function normally include the President of the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago, a guest speaker who might be Ghana's ambassador to the US, or another speaker if the ambassador is not present.
