Ghana National Council (GNC) is a community of Ghanaians that began meeting  in the 1960’s as the Ghana Student’s Union; to create a home base for themselves and others that migrated from Ghana to Chicago.

EXECUTIVES

The executive members of the Ghana National Council are primarily responsible for the curation of events, proposing new ideas, and  maintenance of Council activities and responsibilities 

Paa Kwasi Sam, President

Mr. Paa Kwasi Sam is the President of the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago. He migrated from Ghana to Chicago to join his mother in 1996. Paa Kwasi has been working with the Sheraton Grand Hotel in the Guest Services Department for 22 years. In 2008, he joined the Okuapemman Organization (an affiliate of the GNC) and served as President for ten years. During his time as President he was appointed to be a representative to the Ghana National Council, where he then served as Business Manager for two years, then Vice President for three years. In December 2016, after serving the community he was voted to become president of the Ghana National Council. Mr. Paa Kwasi Sam, who turned 49 today, is happily married with three children and two grandchildren. He continues to play an active role in the community, is a loyal patron of GPNA, and is focused on uniting and promoting excellence of Ghanaians and the African diaspora.

Kassim Abubakari, Vice President

Mr. Kassim Abubbakari is the vice -President of the Ghana National Council and also the President of the Ghana Northern Union for the pass 8 years. As Vice-President of the GNC he has been instrumental and very supportive of the President in implementation of plans and policies for the Ghana National Council, there by making the GNC very productive and progressive. The vice president is calm, respects all people, loves and cherish peace; hence his vision is to always see our community living peacefully with one another.

Eunice Cromwell, Business Manager

Mrs. Eunice Cromwell is an Advance Practice Registered Nurse that specializes as a Family Nurse Practitioner and joined the GNC as Business Manager in 2017. Her willingness to service and leadership skills have made a massive positive impact within the council and the community. Her passion for healthcare was evident when she led GNC to organize the Health and Wellness Fair with GPNA to commemorate Ghana at 60, and has continued to partner with other organization to continue providing the the community with Health and Wellness. Eunice is the CEO/Founder of the Jemimah Noonoo foundation based in Anomabu, Ghana and believes in “Empowering lives daily with education, access and giving”. 
Mrs. Cromwell was the recipient of the 2018 “President’s Excellence award” for her selfless display of excellence in both the health and business sector. She works diligently and goes above and beyond for success in our community.

Abena Ampofo, Marketing & Asst. Business Manager  

Abena Ampofo received her Bachelor’s Degree in Community Health with concentration in Rehabilitation from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She’s taught children (infancy-high school, differing abilities)  for over 11 years as a teacher, director, and a Harvard/ University of Chicago Early Childhood research program child assessor and assistant teacher. Since she was young she has been involved in her Ghanaian community as a member of Boborbor dance group of the Ewe Association for 10 years. She’s also an event planner, interior designer, and private educator. Her dedication to her community comes from her parents’ installation of value and culture immersion of the importance of their history. Her father Togbe Wenya I’s selfless display of involvement as forefather of Ghanaian community organizations and Chief of the Ewe Association for 26 years. Her goal is to connect the importance of the elder generation and the younger generation of learning from each other to strengthen the bond and advancement of the community and greater diaspora.

Akua Ageymang, Youth Secretary

Akua Ageymang  is a native of Chicago, raised and deeply rooted in the Ghanaian Community. She is the founder of BlackStar Seed Nation, a non-profit organization that provides youth with educational and social action opportunities to learn about and invest in Africa and the Diaspora. Akua also serves her community as a member and GNC representative of the Asanteman Association of Chicago, and member of Ghanaian Professionals of North America. By day, Akua Agyeman is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and has worked as a School Social Worker for the past 7 years.

Jeff Badu, Treasurer

Jeff Badu is a serial entrepreneur and a wealth multiplier. He’s a Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and the founder of Badu Enterprises, LLC, which is a multi-national conglomerate that owns several key companies. His marquee company is Badu Tax Services, LLC, which is a CPA firm that specializes in tax preparation, tax planning, and tax representation for individuals and businesses. Another key company is Badu Investments, LLC which is primarily a real estate investment company that acquires residential and commercial real estate properties in areas such as the South Side of Chicago in efforts to restore traditionally underserved areas. What sparked his interest in launching these companies is his passion for helping people minimize their tax liability and ultimately multiplying their money by investing it and building multi-generational wealth.

He’s extremely passionate about financial literacy and currently hosts various financial literacy workshops throughout the country. He’s a public speaker and his overall mission in life is very simple: to make a lasting positive impact in as many lives as possible, especially when it comes to their finances.

Nana Yaa Ampofo, Publicity Secretary

Nana Yaa Ledzi Ampofo is a multi media broadcaster with experience in Radio, TV, videography and production. Her media career started in 2012 and she has since graduated from the Illinois School of Broadcasting  (now known as Illinois Media School) with a concentration in Radio, TV, & Web Broadcasting. ​

She is also the founder and CEO of N.Y.L.A. Productions, a production company that focuses on videography, production, and graphic design. She has been active in the Ghanaian community since the age of 4 and strives to continue to contribute to the Ghanaian community by assisting the GNC in organizing quality events and creating a blueprint for future GNC administrations to follow. 

Effah Ameyaw, Asst. Publicity Secretary

My name is Effah Ameyaw popularly called Kakape. 

I completed Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2000. After my national service with the Non-formal Education Division of the Ghana Education Service,  I got admission to Germany to pursue a master's degree program ( World Heritage Studies). I went back to Ghana upon completion and came to Chicago in 2010. I have been in Chicago ever since, visiting home whenever I could. 

Currently, i hold the following positions:

1. Secretary - Brong Ahafo Association of Chicago 

2. Assistant PRO - Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago. 

3. Board Member of JETFUND (Jema Education Trust Fund)

4. Board Member of Naa Amerley Palm Education (NAPE) Foundation. 

5. Co-founder of Possible Impossibilities, an NPO dedicated to poverty alleviation. 

My passion is to make humanity happy by engaging in community and social organizations. I love music and dance. My wish and dream is to become an attorney.

Cosby Michaels, Asst. Youth Secretary

Cosby Michaels real name Michael Opoku-Agyemang is a member of Mmrantie Association Bolingbrook, and an Executive member of the GNC chicago, Cosby is a radio presenter at WGHC FM chicago and a master of ceremonies (MC) on both social and cooperate events, he is God fearing and a family man.

Sandra Amonoo, Secretary

Sandra is a multifaceted professional with extensive experience in agricultural research and healthcare administrative support. She is an effective communicator with a solid track record of excelling in a team environment. Sandra is a creative thinker with aptitude for identifying opportunities for improvement in policy, procedure, and research methodology. She is the General Secretary of the Ghana National Council and an entrepreneur with affiliations of Alpha Zomax Consultants(Chicago, IL), GREC INITIATIVES Ltd (Ghana) and an HR Consultant (Bethel Specialty Hospital Tema Community 9, Ghana.

Henry Nartey, Special Event Coordinator

Mr. Henry Nartey is a business owner and served thru three GNC Administrations. He started in this current administration as the PRO and  now serves as the Special Events Cordinator. His Organizational skills has been of tremendous help to the community. He doubles as the Master Of Ceremonies in many of GNC and Community Events. His passion to serve the community is much cherished by all that know him well.
