The programs and activities undertaken by the Ghana National Council
are tailored to suit its aims and objectives. Since the corporation
is exempt from federal income tax under section 501 (c) (3) of the
Internal Revenue Code, it is restricted as to how aggressively it
could solicit funding to support its programs. Some of the
objectives that dictate the programs and their achievements are as
follow:
-
Promote general welfare and unity in the
Ghanaian, Africans, African Americans and Caribbean communities.
-
Foster a sense of national pride by promoting the
Ghanaian culture and heritage.
-
Establish and maintain friendly relations with
other organizations of African origin.
-
Promote and organize annual African cultural
festivals and events, which would serve as a means of educating
the general community, especially the youth about the African
heritage.
-
Acquire an African cultural and community center
to be called the "Ghana House."
-
To promote, counsel and also offer charitable
assistance to the community in the areas of child abuse,
homelessness, and alcoholism and immigration issues.
-
Develop fundraising mechanism to support, promote
and maintain the organization
